Meet the Undergraduate Students
-
Ruth Duncan
Ruth just is in her fourth year of the Indigenous Environmental Science Honours BSc Program at Trent University. She has worked in TRACE Lab as a co-op student and lab assistant, and is now starting her thesis project, with a scholarship for NSERC. Ruth will be working with contaminants in the environment. Ruth has experience working within Indigenous communities to community led research and fish assessment and is looking forward to this new project!
-
Ella Kinart
Ella Kinart is a fourth-year environmental chemistry student at Trent University, currently researching PFAS in fish throughout lakes in the Michipicoten First Nation Territory in her Honour's Thesis. Ella's research interests include the fate of chemical contaminants in the aquatic environment and environmental toxicology
-
Matthew Banuelos
Matthew is in his fourth year at Trent University and is studying environmental chemistry. His research focuses on the distribution of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) within Walleye in Lake Erie. Matthew hopes his work will be a stepping stone to providing more information to fish consumers about their exposure to PFAS through food
-
Chloe Lauer
Chloe Lauer is an undergraduate student in the Environmental Chemistry program at Trent University entering her fifth year of study. She has joined TRACE Lab to assist on a mussel watch project in collaboration with Fathom Five National Marine Park (FFNMP). Chloe is currently doing her undergraduate thesis research on antidepressants found in caged mussels downstream from wastewater treatment plant sites in Windsor, Ontario. Chloe's research interests include chemical pollution and toxicology, which intersect her passion for the environment and love of chemistry.
-
Mallory Christenson
Mallory is currently in her fourth year of Forensic Science BSc Program at Trent University and is now starting her thesis project. Mallory will be working with both PFAS and microplastics found in muscle and stomach tissue of fish at different trophic levels. She hopes to find if there is a relationship between the two substances and if they could be co-contaminants. She hopes to pursue her studies in either forensic or environmental toxicology.
-
James Prange-Groulx
James is in his fourth year of the Water Science BSc program at Trent University. James currently works in TRACE Lab as a co-op student, working with other undergraduate students to both support and learn from them as they progress to complete their experiments.
-
Emma Geffros
Emma is currently in her fourth year of Environmental and Resource Science. She has previously obtained a diploma in Ecosystem Management. Emma will be working with TRACE Lab as a placement student for the Winter 2025 semester.
